Maddy May, LMFT is an individual, couple, and sex therapist who specializes in helping her clients embody the best version of themselves by tailoring her therapeutic approach to fit the unique needs of each client, couple, or family. She is known for cultivating healing relationships with her clients by working to understand and empathize with each individual’s unique experiences. By taking a compassionate, collaborative, and genuine therapeutic approach, Maddy creates a safe environment in which each client feels important, understood, and cared for. Maddy has worked with individuals (both children and adults), couples, and families in a variety of settings including private practice, support groups, the non-profit sector, and correction facilities. Her professional aim is to help clients to clarify what would make life more satisfying.
Maddy is well-versed in the evidence-based theoretical orientations of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Mindfulness. She believes that it is never too late to seek help if you feel stuck in your life, your relationships, or if you feel overwhelmed by your current circumstances.
Maddy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from George Washington University and a Master’s Degree in Couples and Family Therapy with a concentration in Sex Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University, where she graduated as valedictorian. Maddy considers therapy to be a process of change that requires conceptualizing each client as a whole person. This means that Maddy will work towards helping you understand yourself in the context of your current struggles, your cultural and familial background, and your aspirations, in order to facilitate growth that feels important to you.
When not in the office, you can find Maddy spending time with her partner and their pets. She enjoys dancing, paddle boarding, long walks in nature, and learning to cook different cuisines. Look forward to hearing from you.
